The German Baltic cost east of Rostock is characterized by a number of lagoons. They are bodies of comparatively shallow salt or brackish water separated from the deeper sea by a shallow or exposed sandbank or barrier island, the so called Boddens, streaching to the Polish border and the delta of river Oder by Swinouscie. The lagoons which can be navigated all the way from the island of Rügen and comprises small nice harbours, secluded ancorages and interesting urban places with a long history such as Stralsund and Greifswald. Rügen itself is an island well worth visiting with its impressive chalck cliffs to northeast and its own inland boddens. We have been there several times and you can find more pictures from our visit in 2009.
