Åland Islands

The Åland archipelago is situated between Stockholm in Sweden and Turko (Åbo) in Finland. The islands belong to Finland but with home rule and with Swedish as only official language. Where as the archipelagoes of Sweden and southern Norway are primarily leisure areas the Åland archipelago is a place where people live and work thus, in many ways a more interessting cruising ground. We particularly like the northern part the 'Geta' area; here are very few visitors and a breathtaking nature. We have visited Åland in 1993 & 1995 in Tusindfryd and again in 2002 in Blåmusling.

Typical boat garage as seen everywhere. During winter the boat may be hoisted and protected against weather and ice

The wonderful wooden building of the Mariehamn Yact Club built in Jugend (Art Nuveau) style

Right in the innermost part of Slottsundet is tha castle of Kastellholm. Not much water there but possible to get in with a draft of up to 1,80

Our friend Helle and Leif exploring the nature of Røder

The Geta archipelago with its red rock formations. Completely protected anchorage and yet in the middle of the Baltic (60°27' N)
The former pilot harbor at Røder is the southernmost mooring at Åland and a good starting point for a crossing back to Sweden

Deger at Fogelö. The church is a charming mixture of Nordic and Russian style The Geta archipelago and all alone
