The Sound

The Sound is our local cruising ground. According to the official definition it stretches from Kullen to Falsterbo reef lighthouse. On the pictures below however, we have included one from Hallands Väderö in the north and one from The chalk cliffs at Møns in the south because they mark the furthest away we reach on our (sometimes extended) week end cruises, and if you have a week you may even reach Bornholm and Christiansø the easternmost point in Denmark. All and all it it’s a tremendously varied area engulfed by the Swedish cost in the east and Denmark in the west.

Next to Kronborg, the Øresund bridge is the absolutely most prominent landmark of The Sound

Another picture from Kyrkebackan, this one taken a late summers evening where our American niece Bente is taking a dip with two friends

The peninsula of Falsterbo is the southeastern most corner of Sweden and an important resting locality for migratory birds. Here is the old lighthouse at the southern end

On the western shores of the Falsterbo peninsula is one of our favorite small harbors: Skanør. From here there are several nice walks along the sandy beach or between the salt marches

The chalk cliffs of Møn are rot really within The Sound but with there more than 100 meters high visible from a long distance. It’s an extraordinary piece of nature within our reach

Towards north it is particularly Hallands Väderö which is the most tempting destination. A small gathering of skerries with a decent anchorage. Seals are breeding on the west side of the island
