Exodus-celebrations in Messolonghi takes place each year one week before Greek easter. The celebration commemorates a Turkish siege (15. april 1825 10. april 1826), when (aledegly) all inhabitants died heroically (they either were killed or comitted suecide). Participants come from all over Greece - dressed in regional clothing - to participate in this very Greek "rather die heroically than a life of dishonor" celebration. We experienced the festivities twice, in 2015 and 2016 (the video below is from 2016).
